Innovative Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
NH3/CO2, the cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates two distinct temperature stages: the high-temperature stage utilizes NH3 as its refrigerant, while the low-temperature stage leverages CO2. In the high-temperature stage, NH3 evaporates to condense CO2 gas discharged from the low-temperature stage. A sophisticated condensation evaporator bridges these stages, serving as the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage, ensuring seamless thermal exchange.




Heat load is meticulously transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the terminal evaporator. The heat absorbed by the CO2 refrigerant is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant subsequently releases this heat to the environment via a high-temperature condenser and cooling medium. Condensed CO2 in the condensing evaporator flows into the CO2 reservoir and then proceeds through a dryer filter and throttle valve to the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Liquid CO2 is pumped to the CO2 evaporator, initiating a cycle where, post-evaporation, two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator. The gaseous CO2 is compressed back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating this efficient cascade refrigeration cycle.



NH3/CO2, within the cascade refrigeration framework, operates distinct high and low-temperature refrigeration systems using single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional refrigeration setups, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low-temperature CO2 system includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, showcasing a symbiotic blend of components for optimal performance.



The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a pivotal role in segregating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This prevents compressor wet strokes, stabilizes liquid levels during pump operation, and accommodates liquid returns when the pump ceases. When utilized as a CO2 reservoir during inactivity, its volume must encompass all system-contained CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the separator efficiently mitigates CO2 pressure spikes post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration ecosystem, the condensing evaporator serves dual roles, functioning as the NH3 side evaporator and CO2 side condenser, wherein the compound liquid's evaporation and carbon dioxide gas's condensation dynamically facilitate heat absorption and fluid transition.
